General care

Dressing your couch
  • Puff back and seat cushions regularly.
  • Switch loose seat cushions regularly from left to right.
  • Dress cushions regularly to ensure that all seams are neat and tidy.
Maintenance tips
  • Vacuum regularly to prevent dust from settling into the fabric. This also reduces fabric pilling.
  • We recommend Coriguard to reduce liquid spill damage.
  • Avoid direct sunlight or harsh lighting; keep away from heat sources.
Feather cushions
  • Do not let your feather cushions get wet.
  • Puff your feather cushions regularly.
Fabric pilling
  • Pilling may occur for the first few months, depending on the strength of the fibres.
  • Vacuum often for the first few months to remove loose fibres while the fabric settles.
  • Should your fabric develop pills, use a fluff shaver to trim them.

How to wash your slipcovers

All of our slipcover fabrics are fully machine washable (excluding our Como and Soho ranges) and should always be washed with a liquid detergent or mild soap powder that does not contain a chlorinator substance. We recommend you cold wash them inside out with Woolite liquid detergent.
  • Machine wash:

wash in lukewarm water on a gentle, hand wash or wool cycle.
  • Hand wash:

wash in lukewarm water, also with a mild soap powder that does not contain a chlorinator substance.
  • Professional steam/dry cleaning is recommended for all loose covers.

  • Drying:

while your covers are still slightly damp, iron them on the reverse side with a warm (but not hot) iron. Never tumble dry your slipcovers or dry them in direct sunlight!
To retain the shape of your slipcovers, wash, rinse and spin and then put them back onto your couch while they are still damp. This helps them set more easily into shape and prevents creasing. Smooth out any wrinkles with your hand. Steam or iron skirt on reverse if necessary.
  • Do not spot clean your fabric as it could lighten the spot.
  • Wash all parts an equal number of times to prevent shade variation.

How to clean your fully upholstered products

Do not spot clean using water or any type of liquid cleaner – rather use a spoon to scoop up solid mess and dab any liquid spills with a dry paper towel. Dry professional clean only. Professional steam cleaning is also extremely effective on all fully upholstered couches. Do not wash any parts as this may cause shade variation.

How to clean up a liquid spill on your fabric couch

If you have Coriguard fabric protection, a bubble will form on the fabric’s surface where the spill occurred. Follow these steps to prevent staining:
  • Take a paper towel and lightly dab the bubble to absorb it.
  • In the case of a food spill, simply scoop it up with a metal spoon and then dab the surface with a paper towel.
  • For mud or soil messes, allow them to dry and then vacuum away.
  • For slipcover couches, wash the spill as soon as possible to have the best result in removing a stain.

How to maintain your velvet couch

  • Steam cleaning is not recommended for velvets or headboards.
  • Professional dry clean is recommended on all fully upholstered products.

Leather Couches

General care

  • Brush regularly with a nylon bristled brush to maintain the pile of this leather.
  • We recommend Cori-guard to reduce liquid spill damage. Do not wipe leathers with a damp cloth.
  • Avoid direct sunlight or harsh lighting. Maintain at least 1m between your furniture and heating sources as prolonged exposure will dry out your leather.
  • Rotate furniture in the room regularly to even out the fading from light through windows or apply UV Filters to your windows.
  • Place an antimacassar on head and arm rests to prevent darkening of leather from the natural body oils.
  • Apply the correct care kit for your leather twice a year to nourish and protect the leather.
  • Do not use harsh chemicals, Dubbin, or furniture polish on these leathers as the texture will change.

Wooden Furniture

General care

  • Use coasters and trivets to prevent water and scorch marks.
  • Keep out of direct sunlight. Rotate wooden furniture and table décor often to minimise the risk of sunburn.
  • Maintain the humidity in the room as dry conditions may cause the wood to crack.
  • Ensure that wooden legs have felt protectors to prevent colour transfer to carpets. Use protective felt/rubber feet under any wooden product to prevent colour transfer from the wood.

Cleaning

  • Dust weekly.
  • Wipe down wood surfaces using a barely damp micro-fiber cloth to remove any dirt and grime that may have built up.
  • A mild dish liquid solution may be used for stubborn marks.
  • Dry thoroughly.

Maintenance checklist

  • Check that the castors, legs and screws are tight.
  • Oil the mechanisms twice a year.
  • Check that bed rails and legs are secured and supportive.

Tempered Glass

General care

  • Always handle glass with care.
  • Always supervise young children around glass products.
  • Always supervise young children around glass products.
  • Never sit or stand on glass surfaces.
  • Do not use the glass surface as a chopping surface.
  • Do not strike the glass with hard or pointed items.
  • In exceptional circumstances, a scratched surface or damaged edge may cause the glass to break unexpectedly. Avoid impacts on the side or edges of the glass, as this is where the glass is most vulnerable.
  • Never place hot or cold items directly onto the glass surface as this could cause thermal shock and could trigger the glass to shatter. Always use placemats and coasters to protect the glass surface from heat, cold and moisture.
  • If your glass furniture gets chipped or damaged, stop using it and dispose of it safely. Small chips or damages may not cause the glass to break immediately but they will weaken it. Temperature fluctuations in your home (e.g. when your home cools down at night) could trigger it to shatter later

Cleaning

  • Dust regularly with a clean, dry cloth.
  • Wipe up any spills with a damp cloth and then dry the surface with a clean, dry duster.
  • Remove stubborn stains and greasy marks with a glass cleaner and a damp cloth or leather shammy, and dry with a clean cloth.
  • The use of furniture polish or spray is not necessary or recommended.
  • Never use abrasive cleaning agents as these can scratch and damage the glass surface.

Rattan

General care

  • Cane and rattan are susceptible to changes in weather conditions. If left in warm climates too long, it can get dry and brittle, causing it to break easily. Natural cane or natural wicker is preferably used on pieces that will live undercover or indoors.
  • To maintain rattan/cane furniture that lives on an undercover patio, make sure to protect them with furniture covers when not in use.

Cleaning

  • Fill a bowl with water. Add a few drops of dish detergent and stir until bubbles form on the surface.
  • Dip a soft cloth into the bubbles only, not into the water.
  • Wipe the rattan with the bubbles. The slight moisture cleans without soaking the rattan, which would damage it.
  • Use a toothbrush or other soft brush to clean in the cracks and crevices, using the same suds-only cleaning method.
  • Dry off with a soft cloth.
  • Repeat weekly for best results.

To restore dry, cracked, or split rattan

  • Apply boiled linseed oil with a brush.
  • When the furniture won’t absorb any more oil, wipe it clean with a soft cloth.
  • Allow it to dry or harden before using the rattan again.

For a thorough clean or to remove stains

  • Apply detergent and scrub with slightly more water than you would for routine cleaning.
  • As soon as you’re done, dry the rattan with a hairdryer or set it out in the sun.
  • Once the rattan has dried completely, apply a coat of lacquer with a paintbrush to provide added protection if desired.
  • Repeat annually.

To remove mould

  • Scrub the mould with a soft scrubbing brush or toothbrush and a 50/50 bleach to water solution.
  • Take a soft cloth and rub down the rest of the furniture to get rid of the mouldy smell and to get rid of any spores.
  • Wipe down with clean water.
  • Pat dry with kitchen paper; absorbing as much moisture as possible.
  • Leave to dry for several days before use. Using the furniture while it is still damp could cause it to stretch.

Other Materials

Marble/ Sandstone

Marble and Sandstone are durable but porous and require special care:
  • Marble can stain easily, even from water left unwiped for too long.
  • Immediately clean any spillage and always place a coaster under your glass.
  • Dust the surface weekly with a soft cloth.
  • Never use dusting sprays, abrasive cleaners, vinegar, lemon juice, or any other cleaner containing acids.
  • Twice a year, wash the product with gentle dish soap and warm water.
  • Rinse it carefully and wipe it dry. Seal marble twice a year to prevent heavy staining.
  • Seek professional advice for set-in stains.
furniture

Metal/steel

  • Wipe the metal top or legs with a damp microfibre cloth, warm water and a dash of gentle dish soap.
  • Dip an old toothbrush into the soapy water to clean grooves and crevices, as well as any sticky spots.
  • Wipe with a clean, damp cloth and dry with a lint-free cloth.

Brass

  • Daily cleaning: wipe clean with a damp cloth and dry immediately.
  • To remove oxidation from metal, make a paste from either baking soda mixed with lemon juice or equal parts flour and salt mixed with plain white vinegar. Gently rub the paste onto the bronze and leave it for about 20 minutes. Rinse with distilled water and repeat for any areas that remain coated.
  • To restore bronze, combine powdered chalk and denatured alcohol to form a thick paste. Scoop some paste onto a clean cloth and rub it into the surface of the bronze. This polishes the surface of the metal and removes mild corrosion, such as that produced by finger oils. Rub the paste into the bronze using a gentle buffing motion.

Painted/ powder coated metal

  • To clean, use mild soap, warm water, and a soft, clean cloth. Do not use harsh chemicals or a disinfectant that could break down the paint finish.
  • Keep out of direct sunlight as the finish may fade.

Copper

  • To clean, use mild soap, warm water, and a soft, clean cloth. Do not use harsh chemicals or a disinfectant that could break down the protective wax and react with the copper.
  • To protect your copper tabletop and keep it sealed, apply clear paste wax every few weeks.
